Getting your home ready for a Sarajevo winter: a maintenance checklist
Sarajevo winters are cold, and preparing early saves costly breakdowns: heating, boiler, windows, pipes and roof.
AL SHAMSI Real Estate 1 day agoSarajevo winters are cold and can be long, and the best time for maintenance is before you actually need the heating. Here is a simple list to start with in autumn.
Heating and boiler
- Have the boiler or heating system checked by a qualified technician before the cold arrives.
- Bleed the radiators so they heat evenly.
- Check the thermostat and run the system for a few hours before you really need it.
Windows and doors
- Check the seals around the windows and replace worn ones.
- Close the gaps that let cold air in; they push up the heating bill.
Water and pipes
- Exposed pipes in the basement or outside need insulation so they do not freeze.
- Know where your main water valve is before an emergency.
- If the home will stay empty, ask a technician about the best way to protect it from frost.
Roof and gutters
- Clear autumn leaves from the gutters so water and snow do not build up.
- Check the roof after storms; a small leak grows with snow.
Garden and entrance
- Trim branches close to the roof and cables.
- Keep salt or grit ready for the entrance and steps.
